Earth, Water, Air and Fire are the generally known and often quoted ancient elements of nature, within which, and through which life has prevailed and evolved.
In addition it is recorded that in many of the ancient traditions and writings, there is reference to a 5th element of nature – aether, also called the quintessence (from quinta essential – the 5th element).
The 5th element is a concept used in ancient and medieval science as a substance. The aether was believed to be the substance which filled the region of the universe above the terrestrial sphere, of which god himself is made of.
The word aether itself, in Homeric Greek, means "pure, fresh air" or "clear sky", imagined in Greek mythology to be the pure essence where the gods lived and which they breathed, analogous to the “aer” breathed by mortals.
The 5th element is therefore a pure substance.
Ecocentrism
Ecocentrism (meaning values centred on ecology) is a philosophy that recognises that the Ecosphere, rather than any individual organism, is the source ans support of all life.
The root of "eco" is "home," and the Ecosphere is the home-sphere. Ecocentrism puts the ecosphere first. It recognises the importance of the environment and nature.
Ecocentrics see themselves as being subject to nature, rather than in control of it. They believe that the natural world should be respected for its processes and products.
Ecocentrism is a new way of thinking. Our own definition of ecocentrism is to believe in products made from natural ingredients.
