HAIR FACTS
On average we have 85,000-150,000 hairs that cover our scalps. Hair is constantly growing and regenerating; it actively grows over a period of one to six years, at rate of 0.2-0.5mm per day. Once its tops growing it may rest for a while and then falls out. Usually before the hair leaves the follicle a new hair is ready to take its place, on average we lose up to 100 hairs per day.
One hair has a diameter of 0.02-0.12mm (thinks varies depending on hair type) each hair made up of many fibres which are composed of amino acids (proteins), the fibbers are bunched together by overlapping structures which are called cuticles. Under a microscope the look very similar to scales. The root of each hair is healed in the follicle, which also contain an oil producing gland. The gland produces oil called sebum which coats the hair. Sebum acts to keep the hair from becoming dry, brittle and, it also provides the hair its flexibility, shine and waterproofing.
Shampoos that contain chemicals like SLS, parabens, TEA and Propylene Glycol will strip the hair of its natural oils and cause scalp irritations. Once hair is stripped of its sebum it becomes lifeless and brittle, it will easily split and brake. Natural-based shampoos and conditioners do not contain chemicals that will strip the hair of its sebum. They contain botanical ingredients that gently clean the hair and provide the hair with essential vitamin and oils. KNOW YOUR HAIR TYPE
Normal Hair
Usually is non greasy with a well balanced oil distribution which does not dry out. It will look healthy, shine, easily manageable and does not frizz or get out of place easily. To maintain its ideal condition wash 3-4 times per week with good quality natural shampoo and conditioner.
Oily Hair
Often straight and is easily recognizable one or two days after shampooing it will start to look greasy, lifeless and if you have long hair it will easily clump together. The scalp will also feel oily. The excess oil is usually caused by the oil gland producing too much sebum. Oil hair need to be washed at lest every other day with a shampoo and conditioner specifically designed for oil hair. Avoid shampoos that contain SLS or parabens, these chemicals will dry your scalp and trigger your oil glands to compensate by producing extra sebum.
Dry Hair
Usually curly or wavy, looks dull and dry, if the hair is long the ends are often split. Scalp will often feel dry and itch; it may also shed small skin flakes. The dryness is usually caused by an inactive oil gland or other factors like excess sun exposure, using shampoos with harsh chemicals like SLS and parabens. Dry hair need moistures, hydrating shampoos and conditioners should be used, as they will proved the hair with necessary moister and will also help to sooth the scalp. If you wash your hair daily just use water and only wash with a natural shampoo two to three times per week. When washing try to use tepid water as hot water can irritate the scalps further.

HAIR 101
Whether your hair is straight or curly, thick or thinning, cut short or long, fizzy or oily, it plays a major part in your appearance. Know how to look after your hair and it will look after you. Good hair grooming doesn’t need to be complicated. To help, we have broken it down into three simple steps: washing, conditioning, styling.
Shampooing
The goal of a shampoo is to get rid of dirt, oil and pollutants that build up in the hair, but without removing too much of the hair's and scalp's natural oils. Most shampoos fail the latter part as they contain chemicals like SLS and DTA, which will irritate and dry the scalp. Our selection of shampoos do not contain SLS's or DTA's, instead they are jam-packed with natural ingredients that gently clean, refresh and at the same time provide benefits to the hair and scalp. When shampooing, massage the shampoo into the scalp, which helps loosen built-up grime and at the same time stimulate the blood circulation to the hair follicles. Once finished washing always make sure that all the traces of shampoo are washed away with clean, cool water.
Conditioning
This can be an important part in making the hair healthy looking as it helps replenish the hair's moisture levels (especially important if you have very dry or brittle hair which needs extra moisture). This does not mean you should use conditioner every day, but a 2-3 times a week can help keep the hair hydrated and looking moist. It is a good idea to give your hair a break from conditioner every so often. Using conditioner too much or too often can actually do the opposite and make the hair look dull and coarse. When choosing a conditioner make sure you choose a good quality natural conditioner as chemicals (SLS /Parabens/DTA) in many conditioners can lead to scalp irritations. If you have naturally moist or oily hair, your hair will tend to produce its own oil so conditioner can be skipped. If however if you choose to use conditioner, make sure it is specifically designed for oily hair. Regular conditioner may actually cause the opposite and make the hair to look greasy and dry the scalp.
Styling
The best way to keep your hair trim and in good shape is to regularly cut your hair. Regular haircuts remove dead ends and stimulate hair growth. No matter what hair style you have you should visit your stylists/barber once a month. Styling products can be used for maintain the perfect hair style in-between visit to the stylist/barber. There are various styling products that can be used day in day out:
Hair Wax is a thick hairstyling product which contain wax, used to assist with holding the hair. It does not harden like products such as hair gel, but remains pliable. Wax is best used on short hair. Try to use a natural-based wax rather than a petroleum-based wax which can irritate or clog follicles.
Hair Gel is used to stiffen hair into a particular hairstyle. Typically, gel gives a stronger hold than hair spray and weaker than hair wax. It can be used on either long or short hair. Avoid gels containing mineral oils or Propylene Glycol, which can irritate and dry the scalp.
The simple act of brushing from time to time can help redistribute oils of the scalp and cut down on oiliness and dryness of the hair. Keep your hair brushes, combs, hair tools clean and in good shape and every so often replace them. Have a good (hair) day!
